HyBus Project: ZEMoS meets HyBus in Salzburg

Austria’s first hydrogen busimplemented as part of the HyBus Implementation project with Vienna lines in Vienna, is being tested in Salzburg’s local public transport system as part of the Zero Emission Mobility Salzburg (ZEMoS) project.

Salzburg transport association and Salzburg AG are testing this Hyundai ELEC City Fuel Cell hydrogen bus on lines 36 and 181. The aim of this practical operation is to collect data on the performance and efficiency of hydrogen technology under real conditions, which will be evaluated for the development of sustainable and zero-emission mobility. Further test operations are planned in the Salzburg’s two model regions of Tennengau and Pinzgau.

Prior to the roll-out of this hydrogen bus test operations, an Information Event took place at the Salzburg AG on the 25 July with the participation of the HyBus Implementation project coordinator FEN Research and project partner Hyundai Import. Roland Punzengruber from Hyundai and Thomas Kantor presented the HyBus project summary and technical data. Additional information was showcased through the project roll-up by Niusha Shakibi Nia and Johannes Mütterlein from FEN Research.

The HyBus Implementation project was developed as part of the Codex partnership of the Green Energy Center Europe in Innsbruck, which researches the two crucial processes “Power on Demand” and “Power to Hydrogen” for the reconstruction of the energy system towards climate neutrality and energy autonomy. The knowledge necessary for the implementation of real economic projects is gained in the two research centers E-West and HyWest. The HyBus project is managed here under HyWest and handled by FEN Research.
