(ETX Daily Up) – Dividing your work week between telework days and days in the office seems to be the perfect recipe for employees. Those who move face-to-face and distance learning will only get benefits, such as a better balance between personal and professional life. This hybrid approach would allow workers to make significant savings.
According to a study by IGW and the consulting firm Development Economics*, hybrid work would allow 76% of workers to save money. Expenses related to commuting to the office (such as transportation, fuel or parking), as well as those spent on food, snacks and coffee, are among the most common expenses. According to the study, by working four days a week from home, an American worker could save up to 30,000 dollars (27,500 euros) per year, while a British worker could save 13,000 pound (15,500 euros) to save.
For 84% of people surveyed, the savings made by reducing their travel enables them to manage their finances better. Nearly two in five respondents (38%) use this savings to add to an emergency fund, 37% use it for vacations, and 35% use it to pay off credit card debt.
In France**, hybrid work also allows 44% of the workers surveyed to make savings. However, the main reasons given by French workers are to save time and more family freedom. Around two-thirds of those surveyed (62%) admit that working from home saves them time every day and three-quarters (72%) emphasize a better balance between their private and professional lives .
This flexibility is seen as an essential benefit by employees who can switch between face-to-face and remote work. So much so that 69% of them would refuse a job that required a long journey five days a week. Half of them fear that this arrangement will have a negative impact on their family life. 47% think these daily trips are too tiring and 36% too expensive. A third (31%) do not want to experience traffic jams at rush hour. However, 35% would consider coming to work every day of the week if it was less than fifteen minutes from their home.
* A study by IWG and consultancy Development Economics of over 2,000 office workers, with public transport data, analyzing a number of hybrid scenarios and focusing on the popular choice of work locally four days a week
** Survey conducted in France with 1000 participants in August 2024 by Mortar Research. The survey questioned telecommuting executives.
