Singer Huub van der Lubbe’s first performance in a musical was received with a standing ovation on Saturday evening. The audience of De Man van La Mancha rewarded the former De Dijk foreman with many minutes of applause.
The seventy-year-old chansonnier quit De Dijk at the end of 2022, because he wanted to explore other avenues.
Acting as De Man van La Mancha in Dronten marks his return to the stage after a year. The performance is set in a prison in sixteenth-century Seville. Van der Lubbe plays a poet who brings the story of the idealist Don Quixote to life in the cell. The knight believes that he can actually make the world a more beautiful place.
The premiere is on December 17 at DeLaMar in Amsterdam. A second try-out will take place in Dronten on Sunday. The performance then moves to Amsterdam.
Van der Lubbe really enjoys being part of a whole in the musical, he told us earlier ANP. “You are not responsible for the entire setup, like with a solo project or writing a book. This is with a lot of people and that is a lot of fun.”
