Huub van der Lubbe released his first solo single on Wednesday. The Impossible Dream is also the singer’s first song since the end of De Dijk.
“The Impossible Dream is about the courage to fight for what is just, to love with sincerity and never to give up, even when the goal seems unattainable,” says seventy-year-old Van der Lubbe.
The song is from the musical De Man van La Mancha, in which Van der Lubbe will play the leading role next month. The musical, which was first seen in New York 58 years ago, will premiere on December 17 at the DeLaMar Theater in Amsterdam.
The lead singer announced in June 2022 that he would quit De Dijk after 41 years. The band, named after the Amsterdam Zeedijk, scored hits such as Bleeding Heart, Can the lights be turned off in If she is not there. The group won several prizes, such as the Zilveren Harp (1987), the Gouden Harp (1993), the Edison Oeuvre Prize (2005) and the Pop Prize (2008).
