The police have revealed the identity of the perpetrator of the mass shooting that killed 10 people during the Chinese New Year celebrations in Monterey Park, California, United States (US). The perpetrator is an elderly man named Huu Can Tran (72).
Reported BBC, Monday (23/1/2023), the Asian man has now died after shooting himself when the stolen van he was using was surrounded by police. Police surround Huu Can Tran for 2.5 hours after escaping following a mass shooting.
The elderly allegedly intended to kill more people because after leaving Monterey Park he went to a dance hall at the Alhambra, where someone bravely disarmed the suspect.
Huu Can Tran’s motive for carrying out the mass shooting is not yet known. Detectives are now looking into the suspect’s mental and criminal history, to determine a motive and if anything has been “missed”.
“Those are all things detectives would be very concerned about,” said LA County Sheriff Robert Luna.
Suicide
Police said that the perpetrator shot himself in a white van that had been surrounded by authorities several hours earlier. The van was allegedly stolen by the perpetrator.
Sheriff Luna said police following the white van heard one shot from inside. After about 90 minutes, police entered the van and found the suspect dead from self-inflicted gunfire.

Ten heavily armed officers were seen approaching the perpetrator’s van. They then broke the passenger side window to get in.
