In the first period, the hosts were better in the game, but both teams largely neutralized each other. It was not until the 16th minute that the Black Wings took the lead with a precise shot into the top left corner. Shortly before the end of the third, Brune had the equalizer on his stick, but missed under pressure (20th).

As in the first third, the Huskies failed to take advantage of an early power play, but were now able to make more offensive moves. A shot from Weidner from the high slot was just deflected by a Linz defender (28th minute), and the hosts’ goalkeeper was on hand to stop Brune, who was set up by Ahlroth (29th minute). But there were also chances on the other side: In the 33rd minute, Maxwell was just able to defuse a counterattack. Then it was Korte, Ahlroth and Brune’s turn again, who raised the alarm in the offensive third, but were again unable to reward themselves for their efforts. Shortly before the end of the third, the game delivered a few more highlights. While outnumbered, Maxwell was able to prevent the second goal with several saves (37th minute), but the Linz goalkeeper followed suit and parried a solo effort by Cutler (37th minute) and a little later one by Keck (40th minute).

It was also Keck who started the final period: his shot at the near post narrowly missed the goal (44th minute). The Huskies pushed harder for an equalizer, but had to wait until the 52nd minute before Brune sank the puck into the far corner from a half-right position. Just a short time later, Olsen hit the post, but seconds later was in the right place and was able to score from close range to take a 2-1 lead (54th minute). The joy did not last long, however, as Linz equalized the game again (56th minute), thus ensuring extra time.

In extra time, the Huskies missed several chances to score the winning goal. Faber failed several times with a solo effort (62nd minute) and the power play against the Black Wings goalie. In the penalty shootout, goals from Brune and Keck, as well as four saves from Maxwell, ensured the away win in the second test match.
