“Husdrömmar” is back – and again this year with Anne Lundberg and Gert Wingårdh as cicerones.

During the season, viewers will, among other things, get to see when a mental hospital in Malmö is rebuilt into a collective.

– The viewers will freeze when they see it, says Gert Wingårdh.

This week, the eleventh season of SVT’s hit program “Husdrömmar” begins and, as usual, it is the acclaimed architect Gert Wingårdh and the presenter Anne Lundberg that guides viewers through all the fascinating projects and all that entails.

“Not really so much about houses”

Anne Lundberg explains to Aftonbladet before the premiere that the gut feeling is good.

– It feels great. But “Husdrömmar” is not really so much about houses, but more about the life that will take place in the house that you have bought to renovate or build, she says, and immediately gets into a project from last year:

– We followed Niklas, who had drawn a house himself that he was going to build. At the same time, he would undergo a transition. So he started building the house as Niklas and finished as Ellen.

Poignant fates in “House Dreams”

She then explains that the viewers will get to experience a touching fate this year as well.

– We follow a family where the mother has been deaf since birth and the father is hearing impaired. But they have three hearing children and are building a house with free guidelines, so whatever room you’re in you can see when the mother draws, and it’s so nice. I’m really passionate about the human stories.

With his architecture beating heart, Gert Wingårdh raves about the upcoming episode when the trip goes to Falun.

– A large family has bought a farm with 14 buildings on the plot and has built a large barn. It is a little inspired by my Eggdal, where I live, and as it should be in Falun, everything is dark red. There is also a stream on the grounds. It’s absolutely fantastic, he says, and with great enthusiasm also brings up another project in Malmö:

– A little further on you will see an old mental hospital in Malmö that has been converted into a collective. Viewers will freeze when they see it.

“Signs that it’s a little tougher”

Both Gert Wingårdh and Anne Lundberg explain that they can see clear trends when it comes to house construction and renovations.

– For a few years, we have noticed that people are much more interested in recycling. You use, for example, doors and windows that already exist. There are also quite a few self-builders this year. But it is also a sign that it is a little tougher. If the money runs out, for example, you have to do the rest yourself. There are many who are fighting hard in this year’s season. It may even be that someone can’t handle it – but has to sell the house before you’ve moved in. It is of course depressing, but at the same time there are many people in Sweden who have to leave their homes. We must also be a mirror of society, says Anne Lundberg, whereupon Gert Wingårdh takes over:

– Everyone is really struggling. In this year’s season, a man in Kristianstad has built a house all by himself. The budget was SEK 3.5 million and it was exceeded by SEK 1,250. With a lot of effort, you can keep the tightest of budgets.

“It’s hard not to love Anne Lundberg”

“Husdrömmar” draws an audience of millions, and both Gert Wingårdh and Anne Lundberg think they know the secret behind the success.

– There is always a building that suits someone. I think many people are also in this position or dream of being in it. There are almost six million homes in Sweden, so it is something that is close to everyone’s heart. Should you build or renovate yourself, or “downsize” or “upsize”? Regardless of perspective, “Husdrömmar” always has something to offer, says Gert Wingårdh.

Anne, how is it working with Gert?

– Wonderful. He is a reference book and sickly general educated. In addition, Gert is very funny. It’s nice to work when the camera is on, but just as nice when it’s off.

Gert Wingårdh is also quick to heap compliments on his colleague.

– She is great. It’s hard not to love Anne.

In other words, the duo gets to share in their dream house at the same time as they have a dream job.

“Husdrömmar” is broadcast on SVT1 and SVT Play on Mondays at 20.00.
