The ex-president Osvaldo Hurtado he told the newspaper The universein an unsigned interview published this Sunday, February 11, 2024, that the president Daniel Noboais ruling “like a statesman, not like a politician, not like a populist, not like a Correa”.

Hurtado has made an apocalyptic description of the state of the economy, and the danger that, according to him, dollarization is in.

And he added that the situation is such «to the point that President Noboa, who was against the increase in VAT and against the elimination of fuel subsidies and in favor of not exploiting the Yasuníhas been forced to change his mind, and so it has to be the behavior of a responsible ruler in the face of evidence«.

He added that he believes “that the security policy in President Noboa’s government is going in the right direction”.

He admits that “he was not optimistic about the successes, virtues and competencies of the new government elected by the people because it was a political organization without history and was a political leader equally without history. “It was a lottery.”

Support

“But After a couple of months I think that he has made the right decisions on the issue of security and has achieved very positive effects; and that he is making correct decisions in economic matters to solve the fundamental problem of the Ecuadorian economy, which is the fiscal deficit“, keep going

«I am not a passionate politician, I am moved by the interest of the country and it does not matter who the president is, if it serves and serves Ecuador well, I support itwhich is the case of President Noboa,” he says.

He says that Noboa “has a way of communicating very much in the style of this world of the internet, cell phones, and social networks.” And he compares him to Bukele: “Notice that the successful dictator president of El Salvador governs with Twitter and a cell phone in his hand.”

Hurtado, who is the oldest constitutional president that Ecuador currently has, believes that Noboa should not think about re-election to decide the measures he should take.

Re-election

«Today he must govern as I believe he is doing until now, as a statesman, not as a politician, not as a populist, not as a Correa. Well, don’t let that give you votes, I’m not so sure…”

«Let’s say he eliminates the fuel subsidy, I’m not sure, but let’s imagine he becomes unpopular. The country will recognize him in two or three years for having saved it from an economic crisis of major proportions.. And we politicians must have many attributes, but a very important one is to see far away, not in a few days, but in the years, in history.

And he concludes: «President Noboa is now 35 years old. Let’s imagine that he is not a candidate in the next elections, The next ones will be done when he is 40 years old. At that age I was elected vice president. What I mean by this? That he is a young man who can wait«.
