Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho hit the target on the power play as Jesper Fast added a goal for the Hurricanes.

Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots for the Carolina Troop, who won their first four games of the campaign.

Captain Boone Jenner replied for the Blue Jackets. Joonas Korpisalo ended the game with 28 saves.

The Columbus team suffered a first loss at home in four games this season.

Trocheck scored the possible winning goal in the first half, when a shot from Andrei Svechnikov hit his back before changing course and outwitting Korpisalo.
