British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has warned of a looming “hurricane” of millions of migrants.
In a fiery speech at the Conservative party’s annual conference, Braverman pledged to close hotels used to house asylum seekers and warned that if Labor came to power they would “open the borders”.
Suella Braverman said that “the winds of change that swept her parents around the world in the 20th century were a mere gust compared to the hurricane that was coming as millions of migrants from around the world scrambled to come to the UK”.
The Home Secretary noted that Britain had “entangled itself in a thick web of international rules created in another era” and that the Human Rights Act should be renamed the “Criminal Rights Act”.
She accused Labor of branding those who want to reduce migration as racists, adds BNR.
Political observers have commented that Braverman’s anti-immigrant speech has undoubtedly rallied the right wing of the party behind her and is making a serious bid to become the next Tory leader if Prime Minister Rishi Sunak loses next year’s general election.
Sunak himself said on the sidelines of the congress that he completely rules out early elections because the Conservative Party is not worried about how its voters will vote.
