Hurricane Nora made landfall this Saturday in the state of Jalisco, informs Reuters, referring to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Nora’s eye, a category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale of 5, “remains near the coast of Mexico after making landfall in northwestern Jalisco,” the NHC report reads.
“Nora is expected to produce total rainfall of 20-30 centimeters, […] the rains would lead to potentially dangerous flash floods and landslides, “the NHC noted in its advisory. The agency also warned that storm surge generated by the hurricane could produce” life-threatening waves “on the south and southwest coast of Mexico.
Hurricane warnings were issued for coastal areas in the states of Colima, Nayarit and Jalisco. Meanwhile, the rains caused by Nora caused a landslide on the Acapulco-Zihuatanej federal highway, interrupting circulation, informs The Excelsior.
So far the Mexican authorities have not reported victims. However, local residents began posting photos and videos showing infrastructure damage from the storm.
