Florida is measuring its wounds after the passage of Hurricane Milton, a passage that fortunately did not confirm the initial nightmare scenarios of total destruction.
Nevertheless, the typhoon killed 15 people (according to the latest figures), leveled many buildings, left over three million homes without power, while search operations rescued 1,000 people and about 105 animals.
The residents had been called from the first moment to leave their homes. The warning was clear: if you stay your houses will become your coffins.
Saved thanks to the freezer
A man managed to hang on to a freezer, which floated 30 miles (48 km) off Longboat Key, a town along the state’s midwest coast.
The man was taken to Tampa General Hospital for medical treatment. Lt. Dana Grady, of the US Coast Guard, said he was saved by a life jacket and electrical device.
