Hurricane Kirk is coming

It’s autumn time of strong cyclones over the Atlantic. Large low-pressure whirlpools will carry storms penetrating inland. As we read on the TVN Meteo website, former tropical cyclones will also appear among them.

– Many of them, reaching the vicinity of North America, can bounce off, move towards the north-east and, already in moderate latitudes, follow the western circulation towards Europe. One of these former tropical cyclones, currently Hurricane Kirk, turned towards us. On Monday, it will be at the ocean, halfway to Europe, said tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Arleta Unton-Pyziołek on Sunday morning.

The vortex that emerged from Hurricane Kirk is weakening, but will remain strong. As a storm-bearing cyclone, it could produce high waves and strong winds that will reach western Europe on Wednesday.

How will Hurricane Kirk affect the weather in Poland?

However, before Hurricane Kirk reaches Poland, it will hit several other countries.

– It will first hit Portugal, Spain and France, and on Thursday it will move towards northern Germany and Poland. On the night from Thursday to Friday, it will move towards Scandinavia. It will touch the Balyk Sea and Poland, causing strong wind gusts in the west and north of the country from Thursday – said Unton-Pyziołek.

The result is to be expected strong wind, up to 80-90 km/hand at the seaside even above 100 km/h. This means there may be a storm. Strong winds will also be felt in the Polish mountains – high in the Karkonosze and Tatra Mountains, it is possible that wind gusts above 100 km/h.

– Due to the great potential of such an air vortex, we will experience a strong exchange of air masses in a short time. First, on Wednesday and Thursday, it is expected to draw in warm air masses from southern Europe, allowing the temperature in Poland to rise above 20 degrees in some places. However, on Friday, cold air masses will push in from the North Atlantic, so the temperature will drop well below 20 degrees – said the forecaster.

After the hurricane, warming will come

Due to the passage of the former hurricane over Europe, warm air will stop flowing into Poland, but only for a while. Already in the middle of the month, higher temperatures will be possible, and as forecast by TVN Meteo forecaster Arleta Unton-Pyziołek “in the light of today’s materials, around October 16 it may reach 18-20 degrees, and there is no trace of a temperature of 25 degrees.
