Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, LL Cool J and Jennifer Hudson, among others, would perform at the concert. Most tickets were free. However, all visitors aged 12 years and older had to show a vaccination certificate.
Criticism
Mayor De Blasio had announced the ‘We love NYC Homecoming Concert’ in June, in combination with a number of far-reaching relaxation of the corona measures. The intention was to show the world that the city has left the corona pandemic behind.
The decision was criticized: since the announcement, the number of infections in the city has risen sharply again due to the delta variant. Only 54 percent of the population is vaccinated.
Barry Manilow
Five hours had been set aside for the concert. However, after approximately two and a half hours, the event was cut short during Barry Manilow’s performance with the police informing visitors that visitors should proceed quietly to the exit due to the impending severe weather.
These are the precursors to Hurricane Henri, which is expected to make landfall in the northeastern United States the next day. In parts of the area, including the city of New York, a state of emergency has been declared.
