Hurricane Henri lands today, state of emergency in parts of New York and New England

New York Governor Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for parts of his state. Tropical Storm Henri moving north from the Caribbean has turned into a hurricane. Residents of vulnerable areas are advised to leave immediately.

Henri is expected to make landfall in New York and New England, a region in the northeast of the country, the next day. The eye is drawn over Long Island, the headland east of New York City. The trains no longer run there.

A state of emergency has also been declared in Connecticut. The governor of that state advises everyone to seek shelter.

The hurricane warning also applies to southeastern New England. When Henri makes landfall here, it will be the first hurricane in this part of the US in thirty years.
