Hurricane ‘Francine’ accelerates its course towards the coasts of Louisiana, in the US

The hurricane Francine The hurricane was advancing on Wednesday through the Gulf of Mexico, in the southeastern United States, towards the coast of the state of Louisiana, where it is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, while several communities evacuated to shelters in anticipation of the impact.

“Tropical storm conditions are now approaching the Louisiana coast. Life-threatening storm surge and hurricane-force winds are expected to begin during the next few hours,” the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its 1800 GMT report.

Earlier, the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast that Francine could become a Category 2 hurricane before making landfall Wednesday night.

The hurricane accelerated its advance, at a rate of 26 km per hour, heading northeast, although it will maintain a similar speed for the next few hours, according to NHC predictions.

It is located about 155 km from Morgan City, Louisiana. Its winds reach 150 km/h, making it a Category 1 hurricane on a scale of 5. If it reaches Category 2, its winds could reach between 152 and 177 km/h.

Several Louisiana territorial jurisdictions, known as parishes or counties, located near the coast, have been in effect since Tuesday. A tornado warning has been in effect for these areas.
