Hunting season starts in September: hunters disappointed

The new hunting calendar for 2024-2025 in Campania has been approved. And there is no shortage of controversy from hunters on some points. The regional council approved the calendar on the proposal of the councilor Nicholas Caputo: «It has been a long journey that has seen the involvement of all interested parties. We can say that we have a participatory and shared tool at our disposal, characterized by solutions that respect all sensitivities and capable of giving dignity and perspective to a strategic sector for the Campania Region».

The pre-opening of the season, through the formula of the so-called “waiting hunt” (temporary ambush), will start onSeptember 1st (and repeated on days 4, 7, 8 and 11 of the same month) for the species: magpie, jay, wood pigeon. So the September 15thfor the mallard, gadwall, wigeon, pintail, shoveler, teal, garganey, coot, moorhen, water rail, grey crow, magpie, jay, wood pigeon, quail and pheasant. For the woodcock and the thrush, for which we will have to wait until October and for these two species it will end in the first case in the third ten days of January in the second in the second ten days of the next first month of 2025. For the anatidae, it will start on the third Sunday of September, having differentiated closures, between the January 20th and 30thbetween the different families.

For the boarin implementation of the recent national legislative change, the withdrawal period has been extended to 4 months: it will start in October to end in January. The longer hunting time for wild boar and the early opening for opportunistic species were decreed to meet the demands of the agricultural world. No hunting of turtle doves and pochards, closing the hunting season on January 30 and not taking advantage of the derogation period in the month of February.
