Pittsboro.- Hunting season is starting and, as a result, shooting is on the rise, prompting authorities to be alert to any unusual activity.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office reminded the community that this increase is expected and corresponds to active hunting periods for various game species.
“We want to assure everyone that this is a normal part of hunting season. That being said, it is always wise to be aware of your surroundings and report anything unusual or out of the ordinary to law enforcement,” said Sheriff Mike Roberson.
The pigeon season began on Sunday, September 2, and will continue until January 31, 2025, the Office said.
Duck hunting, another popular sport, will also begin on October 17 and will also continue in phases until the end of January.
Likewise, deer hunting, perhaps the most anticipated season, according to the authority, will open on November 2 and hunters will participate until January 1, 2025.
Added to this is the small game hunting season for animals such as squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, opossums and lynxes.
This season will begin on October 14 and will run until February 28, 2025, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
They ask for responsible and safe hunting
The Sheriff’s Office advised hunters to follow all North Carolina hunting regulations.
Also, practice safe and responsible hunting.
