In the conversation, the actress also states that she also tries to avoid the word “trans” in interviews, to ensure that her career is not solely defined by her gender identity. “I know that I am one of the best-known trans people in the media right now and I feel some kind of responsibility. And maybe also a little guilt, because I don’t talk about it anymore,” says Schafer. “But at the end of the day, I really believe I can move forward by not making that the center of what I do.”
She further thinks that it would be better to make beautiful things for “the movement” than to constantly talk about it.
“I’ve been offered a lot of trans roles and I just don’t want to do it. I don’t want to talk about it,” Schafer says. She has been playing in since 2019 Euphoria and was also featured in The Hunger Games-prequel The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. This year she will also star in the upcoming horror film Cuckoo.
