Special counsel David Weiss has filed three charges against Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden. Hunter is said to have violated the weapons law by, among other things, “unlawfully possessing a firearm as a drug addict.”
The legal step is historic: never before has a child of a sitting president been charged.
The three charges are related to illegal possession of weapons. He allegedly lied about his drug use when purchasing a firearm in 2018. Hunter allegedly stated that he does not use drugs, while according to the prosecutor this is not true.
The 53-year-old Biden previously appeared to have made a deal with the justice department to avoid prosecution. He would admit to tax evasion to avoid being charged with gun law violations. That agreement did not last, after which Weiss announced last week that he would indict the president’s son.

Hunter is also alleged to have evaded taxes
Hunter often appears negatively in the news. For example, he is said to have evaded taxes and abused his father’s position for business contacts in China and Ukraine. The latter also causes problems for the president.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday assigned an investigative committee to consider possible impeachment proceedings over the alleged abuse of power.
But according to the White House there is no evidence of this. Even the Republicans in the Senate reportedly see little interest in impeachment proceedings.
