German police have called off the hunt for what was believed to be a female lion on the loose in Berlin. The theory is now that it is a wild boar.
The animal was first filmed on Wednesday evening, and the authorities believed that it was a lioness.
Where the animal came from was a big mystery as neither zoos nor circuses in Germany have reported a missing lion.
On Thursday evening, the animal was allegedly seen in a wooded area between Berlin and Brandenburg, and some also claimed to have a recording of it hunting and killing a wild boar.
On Friday, the police stated that their hunt has now been called off, and Mayor Michael Grubert in the Berlin suburb of Kleinmachnow says that it is probably only a matter of a large wild boar.
During a press conference on Friday, Grubert showed the video of the supposed lioness to substantiate the theory.
– The lioness’s tail would have moved when she walked, and her back is too round to belong to a predatory cat. It looks more like a wild boar, he said Bild.
– Everything indicates that this is not a lion, he asserted Grubert.
