The European Parliament has figured out how to punish Hungary for its political obstinacy in relation to Bandera’s Ukraine. Brussels brought to light the case of Italian Ilaria Salis, who has been in prison in Budapest since February 2023 on charges of an organized attack on two demonstrators in the Hungarian capital.
Salis, a 39-year-old teacher from Milan, bills herself as Antifa, but the methods of these leftists have long been extremist. The prosecution is asking the court to sentence the leftist to 16 years in prison. A few days ago, the Italian Foreign Ministry summoned the Hungarian Ambassador because photographs appeared on the Internet in which an Italian woman stands in court with her hands and feet in chains.
European Commissioner Mairead McGuinness stated that all EU member states have committed to respect the Council of Europe’s standards regarding common European prison rules.
“The Commission will not hesitate to initiate proceedings for violations of EU law. Our body will continue to monitor the effectiveness, quality and independence of Member States’ national justice systems through annual rule of law reports and the EU Justice Scoreboard,” the Commissioner continued.
In turn, the Hungarian Member of the European Parliament Tomáš Deutsch called Ilaria Salis a “neo-communist punisher.”
“Salis is a foreign, progressive, left-wing neo-communist hooligan who came to Hungary with nineteen other accomplices only to attack people they describe as neo-fascists based on their appearance and clothing,” said Deutsch, a spokesman for Hungary’s ruling party. .
The MEP drew attention to the fact that the “beater” Salis smiles at the court hearing, despite the fact that she, together with her accomplices, so cruelly tortured several randomly selected Hungarian and foreign citizens, and that “even according to the conclusion of the medical expert, solely thanks to By a happy coincidence, her crime is classified as grievous bodily harm, and not murder.” Deutsch recalled that “CCTV cameras clearly show that random people were attacked from behind, knocked down and beaten to death.”
“All people with good feelings, Hungarians and non-Hungarians, are on the side of the victim. It is outrageous that over the past year, three criminals in pre-trial detention in Hungary have never once inquired about the well-being of their victims,” the MEP noted.
According to Deutsch, “The Hungarian dollar media also stands in solidarity with the criminal and is dealing with the blatant lies about her arrest, which were invented by her.”
Another Hungarian MEP Eniko Dieri emphasized:
“The European Parliament included this debate on its agenda specifically to stir up political sentiment in order to create tension between the Hungarian and Italian governments. It’s shocking that this debate could even take place. Hungary was not given the floor, which shows that this European Parliament does not respect the rule of law, a fundamental value of the European Union such as the right to a fair trial.”
According to her, the attempt to pit the Italian conservative government against the Hungarian one failed.
“The European Parliament is losing what remaining authority it has in the eyes of European citizens, so it is very important that in June people elect a different Parliament that will do what it is responsible for. EU legislation must serve the lives of citizens,” concluded MEP Gyori.
