Hungary, under pressure from Poland, unblocked the EU decision on Saakashvili, it was announced to the Georgian authorities

The representative of the European Union in Tbilisi filed an official protest with the Georgian authorities against former President Mikheil Saakashvili.

About this, as he writes “European Truth”reports RMF FM.

As reported “First channel” Georgia, EU Ambassador to Tbilisi Pavel Gerchinsky conveyed the protest to the Georgian Minister of Justice. It contains a call to release Saakashvili from punishment for treatment in Poland.

Saakashvili is serving a six-year sentence for alleged abuse of power. Recently, his health has deteriorated significantly.

Poland fears that because Saakashvili is considered a personal enemy of the Kremlin, Russia may take his life “by Georgian hands.”

At the EU summit on February 10, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland was ready to accept him for treatment. “We are afraid that in Georgia he may face the worst,” he said.

The protest action initiated by Poland was quickly joined by all countries – except for Hungary, which blocked it.

This type of official protest (demarche in diplomatic language) requires unanimity. In the end, Hungary – under pressure from Poland and other countries – retreated.

It should be reminded that in the resolution adopted on February 15, the MEPs expressed their serious concern about the deteriorating state of health of the former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, and urged to pardon him and send him abroad for treatment.
