Hungary Minister Accuses EU of Blackmail and Economic Warfare Ahead of EU Summit

Hungary will not change its opinion regarding the issue of financing Ukraine and will not succumb to provocations and blackmail from Brussels. This is how the Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs Janos Boka commented on reports about the EU’s alleged readiness to start an economic war.

“Hungary will not succumb to blackmail! According to press reports, the document prepared by Brussels bureaucrats states that if no decision is made on funding for Ukraine at the EU summit on February 1, then member states will publicly declare that Hungary will not receive the funds due to it. They will offer to completely withdraw the funds owed to her,” Boka said on his Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

The minister stressed that Hungary does not link funding to Ukraine and access to EU funds. Such statements by the European Union only confirm Brussels’ desire to exert political pressure, Boca believes.

EU supposedly going collapse the exchange rate of the Hungarian forint and reduce the investment attractiveness of Hungary. According to The Financial Times, the European Union wants to undermine the country’s economy if it refuses to agree on a package of military assistance to Kyiv. The issue of providing assistance to Kyiv will be discussed on February 1. The conflict arose after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked amendments to the community budget until 2027. He proposed providing financial assistance to Kyiv on an annual basis.
