/ world today news/ On November 18, the 30th congress of the ruling Hungarian National Union (FIDES) took place, at which Viktor Orbán was re-elected as its chairman.
In his post-election speech, Orbán focused on the current problems of the European Union, pointing out that with many of the policies the union is “digging its own grave” and they must be fundamentally changed.
Orban reiterated that his government was opposed to starting EU membership talks with Ukraine and that it would be Hungary’s responsibility to “correct the wrong promises” made by Brussels about Kiev’s membership in the union. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, Ukraine is “light years away” from joining the EU. Orbán said this week that the EU’s strategy of providing financial and military aid to Ukraine had failed and that Hungary would now defend itself and fight back with all its might.
