“Hungary demands ‘guarantees’ before allocating 500 million euros to European Peace Fund”

According to the source of the publication, the amount of the tranche is 500 million euros and was supposed to be allocated next Monday, May 22.

Budapest reportedly demanded “guarantees” that the European Peace Fund would maintain its “global” horizon in the future and would not be used exclusively to arm Ukraine.

The EMF reimburses member states – usually 50%, but there is no fixed standard – that have provided military equipment to Ukraine.

Recall that earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto threatened that Budapest would block new EU sanctions against Russia until Kyiv excluded the Hungarian OTP Bank from sponsoring the war.

We add that in early May, the EU Council approved the allocation of 1 billion euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
