The President of the United States said that Orbán “is seeking dictatorship.”
Hungary on Tuesday summoned the US ambassador after US leader Joe Biden said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was “aiming for dictatorship”.
About it reports Reuters, citing the words of Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
Szijjártó called the US leader’s statement that Orban does not believe that “democracy works” and that the Hungarian prime minister “is striving for dictatorship” a lie and a “very serious insult.”
“This way of thinking of the president and the administration of the Democratic Party (USA – ed.) is a heavy burden for our bilateral relations,” Szijjarto said.
After Szijjártó’s speech during the briefing, a US embassy spokesman said Ambassador David Pressman always welcomes the opportunity to “discuss the state of democracy in Hungary with our ally.”
Yesterday in the USA Viktor Orban met with US presidential candidate Donald Trump. For the Hungarian Prime Minister, the meeting with Trump is a chance to get rid of the image of a “black sheep” and position himself as a potential bridge between Europe and the United States if Trump wins the elections in November, Western media wrote.
Let us recall that the head of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that the Prime Minister of Hungary Victor Orban sometimes plays a “very dangerous game.” In particular, this concerns playing along with the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, who is a presidential candidate.
