Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made a sharp accusation against the European Commission (EC).
“Brussels is creating an Orwellian world before our eyes. They buy and deliver weapons through the European Peace Fund. They want to control the media through the Freedom of the Media Act. We didn’t fight the communists to get to 1984!” Orbán wrote. His post is a reference to George Orwell’s novel 1984.
#Brussels is creating an Orwellian world in front of our eyes. They buy and supply weapons through the #EuropeanPeaceFacility . They want to control the media through the #MediaFreedomAct . We didn’t fight the communists to end up in 1984!

According to Viktor Orbán, the future EU media freedom law, which aims to protect journalists from political pressure, will be an attack on freedom and a means of control by Brussels.
Orban wrote on the X social network that Brussels had made “another proposal that limits freedom”.
“The law will lead to the establishment of total control over the media. We, the Central European countries, have already seen this in the past. It was called the Cominform and the Imperial Chamber of Culture under the Hitler regime. Never again!” Orbán wrote.
Another anti-freedom proposal from Brussels: establishing total control over the media. We Central Europeans have seen such things in the past. They called it the Kominform and the Reichspressekammer. Never again! #MediaFreedomAct https://t.co/XbjUBiZcBt

The owner of social network X (formerly Twitter) Elon Musk agreed with the Hungarian Prime Minister and commented under his post: “Exactly.” According to the EC, the social network X is spreading misinformation, and under the new European law on digital services, social networks and internet search engines must censor content that Brussels considers “disinformation”.
The penalty is a 6% fine of the social platforms’ annual turnover if they refuse to censor.
