At the opening of the 2023/2024 program section of the Sándor Csoma Kőrösi program and the Sándor Petőfi program, János Árpád Potápi said in his presentation on Hungarian national politics that this is necessary because the borders of the Hungarian nation and the borders of the country do not coincide, and thus, the Hungarian governments must deal with Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin, and must also bear responsibility for the Hungarians of the diaspora.
We can talk about modern national politics after 1990, when the creation of the national political institutional system began
– reminded the state secretary, adding that this national policy had “highs and lows”. He mentioned the status law adopted during the first Orbán government as an example of the former, and the referendum on December 5, 2004 as the most serious ups and downs.
János Árpád Potápi pointed out that the Sándor Csoma Kőrösi program and the Sándor Petőfi program were launched thanks to the national policy after 2010, which give new impetus to the diaspora and the diaspora.
The aim of the programs is to send scholarship recipients to the Hungarians of the world in the diaspora and the scattered Hungarians of the Carpathian Basin. During the assignment, the scholarship holders deal with community organization, strengthen the sense of identity in the members of the given Hungarian community, and support community life
said János Árpád Potápi.
The State Secretary expressed his hope that all those participating in the program “will return in nine months strengthened in spirit, in their sense of Hungarianness, and in their love of country.”
János Árpád Potápi emphasized that after 2010 there was a significant change in national politics, and according to him, the fact that the issue came to the Prime Minister’s office also expresses the importance of the area.
There are not so many of us that we can push anyone away from us, because every Hungarian counts and we count on every Hungarian, every Hungarian is important to us
he said.
