Details: Orbán’s chief of staff responded to criticism from US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman, who statedthat the Hungarian prime minister “decided to stand with the man whose forces are responsible for crimes against humanity in Ukraine.”

“If you remember previous years, you will see meetings there – many meetings between Joe Biden and President Putin,” Guillas commented and advised to look at photographs from these meetings.

In response to an ATV journalist’s remark that the presidents of the United States and Russia saw each other only before the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Hungarian official recalled the importance of “talking about peace and the need to put an end to Russian aggression.”

“That’s exactly what the Prime Minister did and I would advise others to do the same,” he added.

At the same time, Guillas did not give a direct answer to the question why Orban was at the meeting with Putin called aggression against Ukraine the Russian propaganda term “military operation”but only reminded that the official position of Budapest is condemnation of the war and respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin held negotiations in the Chinese capital Beijing with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

This is the first time in more than a year that Putin met with the leader of a European Union country. In April 2022, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer came to Moscow and met with the head of the Kremlin.

Orban is regularly noted for making anti-Ukrainian statements in the spirit of Russian propaganda. In particular, he said that the historical opportunity for Ukraine to join NATO had been lost and it was necessary forget about Kyiv joining the Alliance.
