The 27e Youth Assembly session returns this year after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic. Under the theme “Dare to Reshape the World”, the event will bring together 1,000 young leaders between the ages of 18 and 32 in the city of New York, from August 12 to 14. It is possible to register until June 30, 2022.
« We must put young people at the heart of creating positive change in the world explained Daniel Obst, President and CEO of Cross-Cultural Programs at AFS, the global nonprofit organizing the event. “Two years ago, New York City was the epicenter of the pandemic. We are thrilled to be contributing to the economic recovery of the city, and the whole world, by once again giving this global platform to young people. Given the pandemic, climate change and the current war in Ukraine, it is extremely important to bring young leaders together to connect, collaborate and move forward in solving the world’s greatest challenges. »
Selected through a competition, the delegates will tackle pressing challenges related to youth, global health and citizenship, digital cooperation and inclusion. Therefore, the Youth Assembly will create a powerful cross-sector global network (which already has 20,000 people in 160 countries) for the next generation of change makers empowered to lead action-oriented projects, take on challenges, seize opportunities and make a difference in their communities.
“At Youth Assembly, you are one handshake away, one calling card away from living the life you have imagined for yourself and the people around you,” said Dr. Rebakaone Bowe, a graduate of the Youth Assembly in Botswana.
Among other prizes and opportunities, Youth Assembly delegates will compete for the AFS Prize for Young Global Citizensworth $10,000 (there will also be two second prizes of $2,500 each). The award will support social impact businesses that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Youth Assembly is organized by the AFS Intercultural Programsa global nonprofit founded in 1914 and recognized for its cross-cultural learning programs that equip young people with essential global skills and a passion to make a difference. The event is supported par Institute of International Education, University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, bp, SDSN Youth, Global Gateway Advisors, Candid, Schwarzman Scholars, Stanley Ho Foundation Department of Sustainable Development from the Romanian government, DoSomething.org and many others.
