Hundreds of women in the capital marched and declared: “No to violence, everyone has rights”

On March 8 – Women’s Day, hundreds of women gathered in front of the pylons of the NDK to express the position that the fairer sex deserves respect and equality. They spoke out against domestic violence and demanded legal changes to limit it and raised the slogan – “No to violence, everyone has rights”. Dorothea Stefanova, the organizer of the march indicated that it was held for the seventh year in a row. This year it is under the slogan “None more”.

“We want to draw attention to the growing violence against women, which was ignored this year when the National Assembly decided in January not to pass changes to the Protection from Domestic Violence Act.”, Stefanova pointed out. She specified that they will insist that the amendments to the law be adopted by the next National Assembly. She added that they want to draw attention to the inequality between men and women. According to her, the problem is very comprehensive.

According to her, this year there are more participants in the procession than last year.

At the same time, the protesters chanted – “We will not tolerate and we will not be silent”, “None more”. They also carried placards with these slogans and also with Women.Life.Freedom”.

Manuela Popova, a participant in the procession, noted that she joined the procession from the very beginning.

“For many people, the holiday is also a protest. It is a reminder that many women are still unfairly treated at work, in public life and at home.” she said.

“We want to show that we deserve equality and treatment. We want to show that women are not less human, they deserve respect, women should not die at the hands of their partners”she was emphatic.

The procession started from the NDK and headed to Vitoshka and stopped in front of the Courthouse, where hundreds chanted “We will not tolerate and we will not be silent,” as well as “No to violence, everyone has rights.”

The procession took place under an increased police presence.
