Hamburg. Thousands of Ukrainian nationals flee the war. Camps for several thousand refugees have already been set up along the Polish border. But many people are also looking for protection in Germany. Hamburg’s First Mayor Peter Tschentscher and Senator for the Interior Andy Grote recently confirmed that the crisis management team that had been set up would monitor events closely and counteract any dangers.
As the senator reports, the first displaced persons have already found accommodation in the arrival center at Bargkupplungweg 66a. The facility is open 24 hours a day. The first 3,000 shelters are ready and more are being created. In the meantime, the district assembly of Harburg granted the exemption from building law in its most recent meeting in order to create an initial reception facility in the former DRK nursing home in Eichenhöhe in Eißendorf.
