Thousands of Israelis called by the country’s main trade union center, Histadruttook to the streets on Monday to demand, without further delay, an agreement for the release of the hostages in Gaza, the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and an end to the war in Gaza.
The call, issued this Sunday by the Forum of Families of Hostages and Kidnapped People, expressed “The families of the hostages urge the public to take action and join them in their fight to end the neglect and bring their loved ones home.”
The strike comes after the recovery of six bodies of Israeli prisoners in the city of Khan Yunis, which has intensified criticism of Netanyahu, accused of obstructing negotiations with Hamas.
In this regard, former Defense Minister Benny Gantz accused the Israeli Prime Minister on Sunday of delaying negotiations for political reasons and urged citizens to demonstrate against the government.
Relatives of the hostages in Gaza have also repeatedly demanded that Netanyahu agree to an exchange with Hamas that would allow the hostages to return to the country.
Since Sunday, dozens of businesses and restaurants have closed their doors as part of efforts to pressure the government and achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
