Hundreds of people on silent journey for stabbed Joshua (15) in Rotterdam

The one and a half hour journey ended at the park on Goedenraadweg, the place where the boy died. There, a relative addressed the crowd.

‘Senseless violence must stop’

“Let Joshua be the last,” she cried. “It’s time for us to stand up. Today it’s Joshua, we don’t know who it could be tomorrow. Senseless violence must stop.” A minute of silence followed the speech.

Some people wore shirts that read ‘be a hero, stop violence’. Flowers were laid at Joshua’s house. Rap music was played there at the end of the tour.

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on Friday suspected of being involved in the stabbing. He reported himself to the police. Its precise role is under investigation.

Fight

The Public Prosecution Service suspects that an argument was probably the reason for the stabbing. The suspect and the victim met at a playground and had taken knives with them.

Joshua was still being resuscitated, but to no avail. He died on the spot from his injuries.
