Hundreds of people have demonstrated this Saturday in Madrid to defend public pensions, a call that they intend to serve as an advance to a “Hot Autumn” (the organizing platform) of mobilizations to also demand improvements in housing, social services, health or education .
The protesters, led by a banner with the slogan “Reforms rob us. Cuts kill us. Public comes first. Let’s defend it!” pensioners, those affected by the mortgage or tenant unions.
The demonstration this Saturday, which has started from the Atocha station to reach the Congress of Deputies, has focused especially on the defense of pensions, which is the first point of the collective’s manifesto.
Although the manifesto does not include concrete demands, the protesters carried banners demanding fair pensions and chanted “whoever governs the pensions defend themselves”, even calling for the resignation of the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá.
They have also charged against the majority unions CCOO and UGT and against the Toledo Pact.
“There is a context of systematic cuts, not only in terms of pensions, but of all kinds of rights: labor, housing, energy poverty, health, education,” Pep Juárez, one of the spokespersons for the Autumn platform, told Efe. Hot.
To combat this situation and “stand up to the system,” the platform has begun to “heat up the fall,” since it foresees several mobilizations this October and another demonstration on November 13, explains Juárez.
The collective’s manifesto supports its complaints on the degradation of labor rights, inequality between men and women, the “looting” of public health, the privatization of nursing homes, the “speculation” of housing or the lack of energy services.
