In France, hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to fight multiple wildfires in the Var region, in the south of the country. The fire broke out yesterday afternoon and was able to spread quickly due to the dry conditions and strong winds in the department that lies between Marseille and Nice. Twelve campgrounds in the area have been evacuated.
“All my support goes out to the 650 firefighters mobilized last night to protect the population,” Interior Minister Darmanin wrote on Twitter. Fire-fighting aircraft are also used. According to Darmanin, the weather conditions are still “extremely unfavorable” for the extinguishing activities.
