Hundreds of demonstrators are currently expressing their support for the Israeli victims of Hamas violence.
The demonstration started around 5 p.m. Several speeches take place. Attendees have been asked to bring an Israeli flag.
The police are present to ensure that the demonstration runs safely. The war in Israel is causing tensions in the city, as was also noticeable prior to the demonstration.
“It’s incredible. There is no foreign conflict that evokes as many emotions as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” says organizer Naomi Mestrum. “It is also a conflict that is extremely polarizing.”
She emphasizes that it is not a political demonstration. “You can also be in favor of a Palestinian state and feel solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attack.”
This Sunday there will be a show of support for Palestine. That demonstration goes from Dam Square to Westerpark.
