Hundreds of companies in the Netherlands may also be affected by ransomware attack

Hundreds of companies in the Netherlands may also be victims of the major international cyber attack that paralyzed computers worldwide last night. In any case, it concerns customers of ICT company VelzArt in Waardenburg.

VelzArt has hundreds of customers. Those companies have been warned that their computers may be infected, especially if they had their systems turned on between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM yesterday, and not turned on their systems for the time being.

The attackers managed to spread the ransomware through Kaseya software. ICT companies use this software to remotely manage customer computer systems.

1500 computers cleaned

Systems have also become infected at the Udenhout technical service provider Hoppenbrouwers. Action was taken quickly, but the impact remains great. More than 1500 computers need to be cleaned, the director has informed the Brabant daily newspaper. The company had backups that allowed the damage to be repaired quickly.

At least three other service providers in the Netherlands are known to work with the same software. It is unknown whether two of them were damaged by the cyber attack. The third, Xantion, claims to have found no trace of the hostage virus so far.
