Greenock’s First Reformer Pilates Studio Flourishes with Over 350 Clients in Three Months
In a remarkable success story, Sobia White, a Greenock entrepreneur, has transformed her passion for reformer pilates into a thriving business. Her studio, Swan Grace Pilates, has attracted over 350 clients in just three months as its launch in November.
sobia’s journey began with a successful career in sales, but her love for fitness led her to complete a Level 2 fitness qualification in 2019. While teaching spin classes part-time,she discovered reformer pilates,a low-impact exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility, posture, and balance. Inspired by its benefits, she enrolled in a course to become an instructor and decided to share her passion with others.
Reformer pilates uses a specialized machine called a reformer, which features a sliding carriage, springs, and straps to provide resistance and support for controlled, full-body movements. Swan Grace pilates offers a safe space for clients of all experience levels, with classes tailored to individual abilities.
To turn her dream into reality, Sobia sought support from Business Gateway, a resource for aspiring entrepreneurs. she worked closely with adviser Barbara Mennie, who provided guidance on marketing, human resources, and funding opportunities. Through this partnership, Sobia secured a start-up grant from Inverclyde Council and attended webinars on topics like social media strategy and business planning.
The response from the community has been “overwhelming,” with classes booking up weeks in advance. Sobia’s client base spans ages 18 to over 60, reflecting her goal of attracting a diverse demographic.
“I set out to build a studio that would attract a really varied demographic of clients, and I’m so pleased with the response. It’s a real privilege to bring something new to Cathcart Street,” Sobia said.
Barbara Mennie praised Sobia’s dedication, stating,“Supporting Swan Grace Pilates from concept to reality has been very rewarding. Seeing Sobia receive such a positive reception is a testament to her passion and commitment to delivering remarkable experiences for her clients.”
With her corporate career behind her, Sobia is now focusing full-time on Swan Grace Pilates, planning to expand her class offerings in the coming months.
