Michael Arteta has hinted that Martin Odeguard will be Arsenal’s next permanent captain after Norway applauded the international move.
Since completing his permanent move to the Emirates last summer, Odeguard has become an even more important player for the Gunners, aiming to end his five-year exile in the Champions League.
The 23-year-old impressed once again as Arsenal beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to keep pace in the Premier League top-four race.

Odeguard has scored five goals and five assists in 35 league games since joining the Gunners.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at the Emirates Stadium, Odeguard signed a permanent deal with Real Madrid over the summer and has since scored four goals and provided as many assists.
Arteta explains: ‘Martin has a long way to go before we can guess what he can bring to the club.
We have no doubts. The club is amazing at keeping you safe in a really reliable way. Martin was very happy to join us because he had a great time, he felt valued, he enjoyed the work we were doing, he got a very good affiliation with the players and the fans.
“He wanted to be part of that project. He has been improving ever since and I am not surprised.
The Norwegian midfielder quickly became one of the most admired fans in North London.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving in January, Arteta has yet to appoint a permanent successor as Arsenal captain.
Alexandre Lacazette currently plays for the Arm Band, but Odegard has revealed that he is the captain of his country and that Arteta has spoken to Norwegian manager Stall Solbaken about his credentials.
Arsenal have yet to appoint a replacement captain following the sale of Pierre-Emerick Obamayang.

Asked if he sees Odeguard as a potential captain, Arteta replied: “He certainly has all the qualities that he can do, for sure.”
‘I’m talking to his national team coach and how well they speak about him. He crosses the aisle and everyone loves him.
“He is a very good man, humble and leads his way. It was so natural for him and it comes.

He created expectations even when he was 16 years old. They all wanted it. And then he had to fulfill it in a club like Madrid where there was competition.
“It was very difficult, but now he has found his place. He is very happy here, he has the atmosphere.
He has people, he has time on the pitch to enjoy it and I think he is doing the same.
