That things don’t always go well for Humberto became clear in 2017, when it came to light that he was allegedly having an affair with host Dionne Stax. Shortly thereafter, due to declining viewing figures, he lost the RTL Late Night presentation to Twan Huys. Humberto, who had the image of an orderly family man, was silent as a grave. Until last summer.
Relationship therapy
When asked directly if his relationship with Dionne had cost him his life, Humberto replied in Volkskrant Magazine: ‘No. No. I’m sure it didn’t matter at all.’ It was the first time he didn’t deny having had an affair with Dionne. However, he declined to say anything more about it. Humberto had no difficulty in saying that his relationship with Ineke Geenen had faltered as a result. Not that couples therapy was necessary. Loneliness, anguish and loss, according to Humberto, were the feelings that eventually led them to find each other again. “The therapist was definitely good. We’ve never really been apart, but the conversations have helped. I think it’s important that you really know what you have in common, regardless of what the outside world thinks and judges.’ Humberto now knows better than anyone that the happiness of the relationship does not come to him. Love is like life itself. There are ups and downs », he says now he in Margriet. “Love gives you butterflies, but it can also be very difficult. Not a romantic
Although Ineke has been his great love for over 25 years, the two are not married. “It never happened,” says Humberto, who says he’s not a romantic. That doesn’t change his sincere desire to enjoy life with Ineke for years to come, along with their 20-year-old daughters Isa and Julia and teenage son Benjamin, of whom he is very proud. Fatherhood means a lot to Humberto, he says in Margriet. He calls the births of his children the happiest moments of his life. “Anything he has to do with my kids makes me happy anyway.”
