In a city that is home to 8.5 million people – who come from all over the world – there are many stories. Be it the ex-junkie who is now wearing a suit, the single mother with three jobs or the girl who collects stones. Of the Blog “Humans of New York” has almost 17 million fans on Facebook, including celebrities like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Barack Obama. Sometimes the President of the United States leaves a comment that has nothing to do with politics.
“What an inspiring story,” he writes under this photo of a boy who gave away all of his apricots instead of eating them alone. “And should I ever meet him, I hope he has an apricot left for me,” BO.
Brandon Stanton, the photographer behind the blog, never goes out without his camera. “I still remember the moment when the bus drove out of the Lincoln Tunnels and I saw the city for the first time,”
explains the 30-year-old in the editorial of his new book “Humans of New York”. “The buildings were impressive, but most of all I noticed the people.”
“I’m afraid that one day she will be lost and no one will understand that she is deaf.”
“We’re getting divorced because we love each other and because we both realized that neither of us can give the other what we need. After we decided to get a divorce, I have everything I like about her, written on a piece of paper and given it to her. She was touched and began to cry. Three days later she shouted a similar note at me. But there it is: She wrote it on the back of a used piece of paper. On one I confronted her and she said, “I knew you would bring this up. If it meant anything to you, you wouldn’t care what it was written on.”If it meant something to you, you would have taken a fresh sheet of paper. ”
Brandon has photographed over 6,000 New Yorkers for his blog since 2010 and gives enthusiastic followers around the world an insight into the stories of New Yorkers.
