Humans of New York: Faces of the Big Apple

Looking back, Brandon Stanton had a pretty brilliant idea without even knowing it himself for a long time. Stanton is the founder of the blog Humans of New York, which is now followed by 15 million people worldwide every day. It all started with an attempt to portray 10,000 faces of the Big Apple. Once that was done, Stanton began interviewing his protagonists. The result is moving, sad and encouraging stories. Some say just one sentence, others have so much on their minds that Stanton grants them multiple posts on his blog. Even if people from all over the world share in the stories of the New Yorker, their name and their identity remain hidden.

Stanton is now so well known himself that some are hoping to be approached by him to be part of the project Humans of New York to become. Some imitators are emulating Stanton’s idea in their own city – from Poland to India to Australia there are now “Humans of”.

In his book “Humans of New York” Stanton brings together the first interviews and pictures he took on the streets of the east coast metropolis on almost 430 pages. A nice project that is not only fun in blog form.
