Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Experts call humans responsible for making corona virus SARS-CoV-2 terus mutate or not through prevention of transmission Covid-19.
Because, according to University of Indonesia Epidemiologist Pandu Riono, it’s human behavior that causes the Covid-19 virus to continue to spread until it mutates.
“Because our behavior encourages the virus to continue to mutate. The virus can’t run, it can’t be transmitted to other people, it’s only us who infect other people. So there is a problem process in human behaviour human behavior,” said Pandu.
For example, the low 3M behavior (wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance) since April in the DKI Jakarta area is also correlated with an increase in cases of Covid-19 transmission. So, according to him, residents’ 3M compliance needs to be improved again.
Furthermore, Biomolecular Expert Ahmad Rusdan Handoyo explained that viruses need a host in order to mutate. The body of the host (human) is used by the virus to replicate (multiply) until finally viral mutations appear.
“To be able to mutate he must replicate (and in order) to be able to replicate he must first meet the host,” he explained when contacted (24/6).
In other words, in order to mutate, the virus must be contagious and enter the body of its host, namely humans. Thus, the more cases of transmission, the higher the mutation rate of the virus.
On Tuesday (6/7) the number of daily cases of corona virus infection (Covid-19) in Indonesia was in the third largest position in the world after Brazil in first position and India.
The Covid-19 Handling Task Force (Satgas) noted that the distribution of areas that are categorized as red zones or areas with a high risk of transmission of the corona virus (Covid-19) jumped to 96 districts/cities in the past week from the previous 60 regions.
Meanwhile, the increase in Covid-19 cases in a number of countries, including Indonesia, was driven by the mutation of the Delta variant of the corona virus.
DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said as many as 128 variant of concern or a new mutation of the corona is detected in the capital city. Of that number, 87 percent or 111 cases of them were delta variants (B.1,617.2).
The same thing happened in Europe, which again experienced an increase in transmission due to the Delta variant that spread in Russia and England.
The two countries experienced the highest increase in new cases in Europe. In addition, the spread is also the fastest with Russia recording 20,400 cases per day in the last seven days, up 25 percent from last week. While the UK recorded 16,400 new cases, up 70 percent.
Thus, Epidemiologist from Australia’s Griffith University Dicky Budiman suggested that the virus does not mutate faster and cause new variants, according to him, it can be done by preventing the transmission of the corona virus.
Prevention of transmission from oneself can be done with 5M (wearing masks, maintaining distance, washing hands, avoiding crowds and reducing mobility) and vaccination.
“Quarantine isolation is effective for 14 days, effectively not causing contact with other people, it will prevent transmission to others,” he explained (23/6).
The government must also respond quickly and appropriately with 3T (Tracing, Testing, Treatment). This is what is considered important from the beginning of the pandemic to the end of the pandemic.
“So that the virus does not mutate, the strategy is the same in every outbreak, it is to find cases of infection as quickly as possible, and respond as quickly and precisely as possible,” said Dicky.
Similarly, Pandu also responded that India had succeeded in reducing transmission due to massive testing.
“India testing is extraordinary, not with drugs… testing, tracking, isolation is correct, in dealing with the pandemic there,” he said.
Because the success of detecting people who are exposed to the corona virus quickly can break the chain of the Corona virus. Patients infected with the corona virus should immediately be isolated and quarantined.
Thus, breaking the chain of transmission is a step to prevent the virus from continuing to mutate so that it becomes more infectious as is the case with the current Delta variant.
