Humanities City Pocheon holds book concert ‘Neighborhood Book Day’: Pocheon Daily News

Pocheon City held the 3rd Pocheon City Neighborhood Book Day’ event at the city hall lawn plaza on the 19th.

The event, which celebrated its 3rd anniversary, included a ceremony commemorating the publication of the book club’s anthology ‘Between Reading and Writing’, a lecture by poet Park Jun, a song performance by singer Harim, and a book concert. It also provided a variety of experiences and attractions, such as caricatures and digital drawings, calligraphy bookmarks, decorating storage hangers, and book exhibitions.

Reading club members and book-loving citizens participated in this event, which served as an opportunity for family members and acquaintances to become closer to reading in the grass plaza, contributing to the expansion of Pocheon as a city of humanities.

Mayor Beck Young-hyeon visited the event venue and encouraged the reading club members and event staff, congratulated the publication of the book club collection, and expressed gratitude.

Mayor Baek Young-hyeon said, “A few days ago, when I heard the news that author Han Kang had become the first Korean to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, I was happy and felt proud as a Korean.”

He continued, “The reason why our writing, a work that captures our emotions, was recognized globally is because it allowed us to empathize with pain and loss, which are universal human emotions, and because everyone was able to stand in solidarity through that empathy. “It is,” he emphasized.

He also encouraged them by saying, “This is the power of literature. You, too, are reading and writing together, empathizing with and communicating with each other, so you are all great writers and great readers.”

“I also believe that this kind of empathy and solidarity can be connected to ‘a humanities city where my life becomes culture,’ and I believe that the more citizens who read and write like you, the better Pocheon City can become as a humanities city.” I have no doubt. In this regard, Pocheon City will continue to generously support the activities of the reading club.”
