The serious violations to which the numbers of Tindouf camps are controlled by the armed separatist militia of the “Polisario” were strongly denied, during the 4th commission of the UN General Assembly held there in New York.
The president of the Spanish “Avina” Foundation, Pedro Macarrón, spoke out, in front of the members of the Commission, against the abuse especially of children in these camps in the south-west of Algeria, noting – note that thousands of young people are “under control. by the armed group +polisario+ to inappropriate practices that violate their most basic rights”.
“These children are recruited and trained to become soldiers, which not only deprives them of their childhood, but also exposes them to situations of extreme violence and danger,” he said. , saying that these actions only perpetuate “a cycle of violence and suffering that affects entire generations.”
Instead of benefiting from quality education, these children, who suffer from “irreparable psychological and physical trauma”, are forced to take up arms and participate in conflict, laments the petitioner.
For his part, Hamada Bouihi, a member of the “Polisario”, denounced “the criminal policy of the terrorist group, the + Polisario + which makes the numbers arrested in it the Tindouf camps “the worst forms of human rights violations”.
He also noted that the opposition groups active in the Sahel region “include several members of the + polisario + from the Tindouf school of violence and terrorism”.
Narrating the tortures he suffered at the hands of torturers in these camps, M’Rabih Ahmed Mahmoud Adda, one of the founders of the Assomoud association, which aims to claim in particular the right to freedom of expression and movement, pointed out , for his part. out the “systemic violations committed by the leaders of the Polisarian criminal group as the only way to stay in their position with the support of the host country”.
He also noted that the separatists have turned the Tindouf camps into “refuges” for drug and arms trafficking networks, saying that these camps are now a “retreat” for armed militias.
For other petitioners such as the American Nancy Huff, the president of the UN Teach Children International and the Jordanian Amal Jbour, it is time for the international community to fight these violations as well as against -large use of the humanitarian aid planned for the camp population. .
“I could no longer, in good faith, accept aid from well-intentioned humanitarian organizations and send it to Tindouf if I knew that the people who needed it the most never received it,” said Ms. Huff, citing reports from the World Food Program (WFP) and the European Union’s Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) as evidence.
In its report in 2023, the WFP reported serious irregularities in the management of aid in the Tindouf camps, especially the sale of the UN agency’s products on the markets of neighboring countries, she recalled.
In the same way, Lemaadla Zrug, the president of the Sahrawi Association against freedom in Tindouf camps (ASIMCAT), protested against the state of lawlessness common in Tindouf camps where “Polisario” militias continue proceed with systematic violations with the blessing of the host. country, Algeria.
“It is no longer necessary to show the responsibility of the host country,” she said, citing in this regard reports from UN human rights mechanisms and several organizations such as France Liberties.
