The decision of the Cauquenes Guarantee Court to transfer the only convicted person from the former Colonia Dignidad, Gerhard Mücke, convicted of pedophilia and crimes against humanity, to the Parra Hospital generated controversy.
The transfer, originated after an appeal for protection filed by the defense of the former head of Colonia Dignidad, was explained by lawyer Féliz Arto: “Applying international treaties, fundamentally what is dictated by the Inter-American Convention for the Treatment of the Elderly, the Cauquenes’s guarantee ordered his transfer to the Parral Hospital, which is pending compliance. “
Because of this, human rights lawyer Roberto Celedón criticized the resolution, as Mücke is serving “prison terms for pedophilia and crimes against humanity, which together add up to 27 years.”
“We made a presentation to the visiting minister, Paola Plaza, to reverse this, because we also understand it is she who has the power in the matter,” said Celedón, according to the Cooperativa radio station.
