The mine was closed after the disaster and access to it was banned for years due to safety concerns. Investigators were finally granted access in 2019 after requests from the miners’ families.
Footage was captured deep in the mine late last week during a drilling that showed two bodies, possibly even a third, police said. However, the remains were too far from the mine entrance to get hold of them. The police are working with forensic experts to identify the bodies.
At the time of the explosion in 2010, six to eight people were believed to have been working in the area where the remains were found.
