Human bones were found in a wooded area a few meters from a road in Long Island (NY) this morning.
The remains were discovered in a wooded area near exit 40 of the Southern State Parkway at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, it reported. Pix11.
New York State Police (NYSP) officers responded to a call after a driver noticed something in the woods near the Southern State Parkway in the city of Islip, county Suffolk.
The investigation is ongoing. In a brief press conference later, the police confirmed that the remains were human, but added that it was too early in the investigation to identify the person to whom the bones belonged, the age and gender. It is also not known how long the remains had been there, if the death was criminal in nature, or if there were objects or belongings nearby.
The Forensic Identification Unit and the state police Criminal Investigation Bureau were called to the scene, he said. NBC News.
State Police Capt. Christopher Casale said a driver had stopped on the shoulder of the avenue “when something caught his eye,” which led to the discovery of the wreckage and the call to 911.
